This was a self-initiated project responding to early signage on the Dhaka MRT line — functional, but inconsistent and hard to read at speed. I wanted to explore what a fully bilingual transit system, designed from the ground up, could look like.
Reading at three meters per second
Transit signage is read while moving. Every choice — type weight, x-height, line spacing, arrow geometry — is calibrated to be glanceable at speed. We tested mockups on actual MRT platforms with commuters, refining glyph weight and spacing across three iterations.
Colour for sunlight
Dhaka light is harsh and yellow at noon. Many transit palettes designed in temperate climates wash out under tropical sun. We tested every line color against a reference photograph taken at 1pm and adjusted saturation accordingly.
